5th Anniversary Season
Announcing the 5th Anniversary Season of the Orlando Chamber Soloists in Residence in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota, July 3-28.
The Orlando Chamber Soloists and the Chamber Music Festival now serve 4 counties in Western South Dakota including the communities of Lead/Deadwood, Sturgis, Rapid City, Rockerville, and the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Our programs include Classical Concerts and 4 different educational programs for all ages. Our newest program this summer is Music in our Community (click here for more info.) where area high school and college students perform as individual members of the Orlando Chamber Soloists. More information can be found under the Educational tab listed above.
Our mission is to foster the appreciation of classical music by presenting chamber music concerts by world-class musicians using exciting and innovative formats with an emphasis on developing a broad based
sustainable audience through education and community involvement.
Our educational activities will benefit the entire youth community. Our programs are designed to stimulate imagination, focus attention, build technical skills, and teach performance techniques valuable in any field.
It is our desire to foster community involvement by featuring local commerce and artists that tie into the theme of our concerts.
Classical Concerts
July 14, The Dahl Arts Center, 7 p.m.
This multimedia concert features the winning photography of John A. and
Johnny Sundby. The beauty and inspiration of the Sundby’s photos will be set to music along with the English Folk Songs of Vaughan Williams. In addition, there will be a collaboration with the Black Hills Astronomy Club to produce a film to accompany a South Dakota premiere of a new work titled, “Eye of the Night.” Sundby’s photography and the
“Eye of the Night” will highlight the majestic beauty of the inspiring and emotional images of Black Hills. Included in the program will be works by American Fiddler Mark O’Connor with his String Quartet #3 “Old Time” and Dvorak String Quintet.
July 21, Calvary Lutheran Church, 7 p.m.: Bach, the Original Christian Rock
The Orlando Chamber Soloists will perform favorite works inspired by the Church, including Bach's “Goldberg Variations,” “The Bells of St. Genevieve,” and Grandjany’s "Rhapsodie,” and Jennifer Higdon's“Amazing Grace."
July 28, The Dahl Arts Center, 7 p.m.: Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves
An evening of thrilling and passionate music including Rossini’s “Thieving Magpie,” “Carmen,” Brahms’ “Piano Quartet,” Josef Suk's “Meditation on a Bohemian Carol,” and many more favorites.
Recent Award:
Orlando Chamber Soloists are pleased to be awarded the United Arts of Central Florida established artist grant. The funding will support and expand our educational programming throughout Central Florida. Dawn Edwards, Artistic Director of the Orlando Chamber Soloists, was the only musician choosen for 2012. April 13, 11:00 AM at the Orlando Public Libary in downtown Orlando Story Time set to Classical Music: Teddy Bear Series
We will present a young child’s first introduction to classical music with the Orlando Chamber Soloists as we set your favorite stories to popular classical music themes. The childhood favorite, Rumplestiltskin, will feature the musical themes of Scherezade for Violin, Elizabeth Overweg, and Harp, Dawn Marie Edwards.
After the performance, each child will get the chance to meet the musicians and play the Harp and Vioin in a "Musical Petting Zoo." Please call 407.835.7323 to register. Ages 3-5.
