We Are South Dakota Project Completed! youtube link: We Are South Dakota Special thanks to all the children involved and our many community leaders.
“We Are South Dakota Virtual Choir” A 15-month community collaborative effort including 160 voices, native drums and the professional musicians of the Orlando Chamber Soloists in residence throughout the Black Hills and Pine Ridge. The video features children ages 2-18, each recorded individually and combined into a mass virtual choir singing in Lakota and English. This community project included more than 40 Black Hills collaborative partners.
The virtual choir is a chance for each child to be a part of something bigger than themselves. The music and score was arranged so that every child interested could play or sing a part regardless of their musical experience or age.
The video continues our mission to break down economic and cultural barriers though music. Our collaborative partners include Ateyapi Mentoring, Black Hills Children’s Home, Calvary Lutheran Church, Children’s Alliance of the Northern Hills, General Beadle, Girls Inc., Phoebe Hearst Public Library, Rapid City Children’s Chorus, Rapid City Libraries, and SuAnne Big Crow Boys and Girls Club of Pine Ridge.
